Welcome Ben!

Don't think you need a fully painted army to come play. (or even fully assembled really). We're pretty loose on games at the barn, and most people won't mind at all if you're still working to get models finished. Do you know how to get out here?

We don't gather as a group on any day but Fridays. If you are looking to get in some more games though you can always try the 'Schedule a Game' forum to see if anyone is interested in getting in some games on other days of the week.

Hey Guys
Im new to the website and the warhammer scene, and i was wondering where this mythical barn is and how often you meet. Right now all I have are the basic unpainted hq and troop choices for a Tau army, but that will hopefully change soon.

I just got back into WH40K after about 10 years. I play Chaos and can field around 2500-3000 points (I believe). I was
just wondering if people are still playing and what day and times people play. I recently got a job in GR and am
looking to move over (I live in EL at the moment) so attendance might be a bit sketchy at first.

Always good to hear about people getting back into the game! We play most Friday nights here at the Barn, from 7:00pm until 12-1am or so. Now that you're registered on the forums, you should see a board called 'Barn Location & Information' It has our address on where the club is located. You can also check our calendar feature here on the boards to see which gaming nights we'll be open. Feel free to browse around and let us know if you have any other questions!!

Greetings all, nice to see a regular group of gamers in the area again. Used to game with some others, but time/work/life seems to have drifted us apart, and I lost contact with most of them.

More focused on the modeling and painting side of the hobby, but occasionally interested in a game. Hopefully I can swing by the Barn some Friday.

-E.

We do have a nice little long high table set up for painting modeling. I've used it many a times when I needed to get some models finished up. So there would be plenty of room to do just that while shooting the breeze with people and still be able to get in some work on your models.

Hello everyone, Anthony here. I heard about y'all on the Dakkadakka forums from Arander. Sadly, my FLGS (friendly local gaming store) had closed down. Seeing that I was in the middile of stripping my army, I haven't played in almost a year. I finally checked you guys out today, and I was very suprised to see so many people in West Michigan.

I play Vanilla Marines painted as Dark Angels. Why, you may ask? I like the smurf codex, haha. So nothing is painted right now besides my Chaplain. I was wondering, do people mind if my marines arent painted? They will be eventually of course.

Thanks,
Duff.

Hey Dufflebag, welcome to the site! We've got quite a good sized group attached to the Barn, and good attendence on most of our gaming nights. For example, our Saturday gaming that we held yesterday had 20 people show up! It was great to see so many people out that afternoon.

To answer your question, there is absolutely no problem with having unpainted armies. You'll find that you're not an outcast for playing with grey plastic or primed models. Most of us have our armies in various degrees of assembly/painting and it rarely causes a problem. Sometime this summer we may run some sort of a campaign/league that will push people to paint their armies, but a painted army is in no way required to come out and game.

Check out the Barn Location & Information thread to see where we're located at. The calendar on our site will give you the specific nights and times in which we game, so come check us out one of those days!

Hello everyone, my name is Damian and have been playing 40k for about a year now. I started with Orks, up to now collecting approximately 4500 points worth of models. I've recently started a Tau army, but have only managed to muster up just under 1000 points so far. I like doing conversions on my Ork models, it is a very fun army to build, but the Tau are more standardized. I built alot of terrain pieces, and am currently working on a gaming table. I've been playing with 3 of my friends, which have provided Necrons, Chaos Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Tau, and Space Marines as opponents. I'm interested in trying out some tournaments to try and expand my learning and tactics, and meet some cool people who share an interest in the hobby. Hopefully soon I'll be posting up some pictures of my painting, I'm told it is of decent quality. Glad to get my foot in the door, and hopefully I'll be chucking dice with some of you soon!

Hey there Damian, glad you found us! Seems like you've got quite the ork army built up. Can't wait to see it out at the Barn sometime. Check the calendar here on the boards at http://segmentummichigandus.freeforums.org/calendar.php to see which nights/days we'll be out at the Barn. The address is located in the Barn Location & Information thread, and if you have any questions at all please feel free to ask!

Just out of curiosity, about how many active members do you have, and what is the general age range?

I'd say about 10-13 members that visit the Barn at least once a month, with most of them in their 20's or 30's. We have had some youngbloods start showing up every now and then, although not regularly at the moment. That would be another 5-6 who are in middle school.

Hey all,I'm a broke homeschooled 18 yearold who moved back here to MI from FL last august.I play LotR TMG and did play LotR SBG but i'm getting out of that because I finally got corrupted into WarHammer Fantasy and plan on going with Skaven when I can.I've never seen a game played but I am familiar with wargaming and I have read a condensed form of the rules online via "scribr.com".So is there any players up near where I am? (half way to Big Rapids)

Howard City is pretty far up there. The majority of our players are down in Grand Rapids, centered primarily around the Kentwood/Grandville area. I know there's a few people in Greenville, one in Kent City and one in Newaygo. With the distance we don't see them on a weekly basis, but I don't really know of any stores up in that area that have any room for gaming, especially the room needed for 40k. Have you checked the Big Rapids area? With Ferris right there, I'd imagine there's a large group of Magic players, and they'd need a store in the area. Maybe there's some 40k players there. That seems to be a closer drive for you then us down at the Barn.

We do occasionally have Saturday gaming times though, which you may want to watch the calendar for. That way if you do want to head down and see our setup, the drive back home doesn't have to be made at 1am.

Yeah it is,lol.Yeah, thats what I figured when I looked up were the barn is.Well Store wise the closest ones are in Grand Rapids (closest one for me is Rider's but I haven't heard to much good things bought them,no offense).Well I don't want to get into 40k,just WHFB, but I have been looking around Ferris and I always get weird looks when I ask about wargaming period so i'm doubting theres many(if any players). On a happier note is that I'm going to GRCC this fall so that'll bring me in range of any of you guys, stores, and any players there. Yeah,I saw that you guys are having one in a few weeks but I don't think I can make it this month(I only just got my TIP so I'll have my license next month, lol)

Unfortunately we have almost no Warhammer Fantasy players in our area. So if you're looking to play regularly you may have to schedule games before you make the trek to The Barn.

I think there are players in Grand Rapids, they just don't come out to the Barn. Check out the Great Lakes Warhammer League:

http://glwl.org/glwl.html

They deal exclusively with Warhammer Fantasy, and are spread out all across the state. You may be able to find some opponents through there, but more than likely it will require a drive down to GR.

Actually, the barn does have at least two players, me and Caboose. We don't play fantasy much for that fact that 40k is the easier game to play and understand rules wise. However I have been wanting to get back into "fantasy land" for the past few weeks.

I play Warriors of Chaos mostly, and (sometimes i play Empire).
