So I have been wondering if/when you destroy a walker in close combat what do you do? Do you get a consolidation move or not? In the section of the rulebook about assualts with a walker it says they fight like infantry, but they are of course still vehicles so I could see either as being a viable option. It tells you what to do if the walker wins and wipes out the squad it was fighting, but not for the reverse.

I have checked the rulebook, the GW faq's and the INAT and none of them cover this. Up to this point anytime I win against a walker by destroying it I have pretty much wondered about it and then just said 'well its a vehicle' and haven't been taking consolidation moves. It seems like a bit of a gray area to me though and was wondering what you guys thought on the matter.

Discuss.

Pg 73 of the rule book states Walkers make sweeping advances, pile-in moves and cosolidations unless they are stunned or immobilised.

As you said, nothing explains exactly what happens when a walker is destroyed in close combat. Considering, however, than unlike regular vehicles they can be locked in combat, and by the sentence listed above, I believe that units that have destroyed a walker in close combat are able to consolidate as normal. As you said, the rulebook states that walkers assault like infantry models. I feel that should they die, the opposing unit would then react just as if they had been locked with an infantry unit.

I would go with the winning side gets to consolidate. Since it specifically states it fights like infantry and infantry get to take a consolidation move after winning in close combat, I would take this as the case. In other words, do not worry about who you are fighting--the basic rules for infantry in close combat is that they get a consolidation move after wiping out the enemy and the rules for close combat with walkers do not override this (in fact they tend to confirm it by stressing they fight like infantry), take the consolidation move.

If you read the fluff for a space marine dreadnought is specifically called a dreadnought terminator (a really big termie).
