With Adepticon now less than 80 days away, and many of us planning on attending one or more of the events I thought it might be good if we were to try to band together to help us all improve our chances of table-top glory. To that end I present The Playtest Gauntlet!
The idea here is to help each other hone and refine our army lists and tactics through a series of test games against some of the most popular builds and recent GT winning builds out there. This would include such popular builds such as Draigo-wing, Deathwing, Razor-wolves, DoA, Razorspam BA, Purifier spam, Venom spam and any of the other popular builds out there.
It's to be a bit more in depth and analytical than just taking your various armies and playing games with them. Players would take turn using their own army or running one of the Gauntlet lists in each game. This would give them critical experience against some of those builds, but more, they would gain understanding of how the net-list builds work by having first hand experience running it.
For most games play would stop at turn three and the players would assess the field of battle. If it was fairly clear which way the battle was going they should stop the game there and discuss the nuts and bolts of how it went. If it's just too close to call then they could play it out to see which way the pendulum would swing. This would allow for more playtest games to occur than playing every one to its conclusion. These games aren't about your win/loss record, they're about improving your play!
Another idea is that at the beginning of each game if the player running his own army is getting the first turn the players should play out one turn of the opponents as if they had seized the initiative. It happens, and it can sometimes decide a battle before it even really starts. Seeing how your army and its deployment handle being seized on could be critical information.
So anyway, that's the basic gist of it. I haven't fully fleshed the idea out as I wanted to see if people would even be interested in doing it before I invested too much more time into it. Also, I wouldn't mind having some help in the fleshing out part either
Anyone interested?
