Hey, I was thinking that it might be a good idea if the Barn had a standardized points size for typical battles. This way everyone would know that if they brought a list for say 2000pts (as an example) that there would be other people there with that same size list. This would help with set up time before battles as people wouldn't need to write/tweak a list for the size battle they wanted to play, they would already be ready to go. It just seems to me that this would be a good idea for normal pick up games.

We would of course still be able to do battles of other sizes, and that would be what the Schedule a Game forum would be for (or I suppose if two people showed up who want to do a different size on the spot that would be their prerogative.) I don't want people to think that they would have to play this size.

If we were to do this what points limit do you think is good. I'm leaning towards 2000pts myself considering we just finished up the escalation league, and that brought us up to 2000. Or should we go a little lower to get in more games, or maybe up to (at least temporarily) 2500 to prepare for the upcoming 'Ard boys tourney?

What do you guys think? Is this a good idea or not, or is there already one in place and I'm just an idiot walking around in the dark. ;)

I'm down with the idea. For a few of us, I think we'd already moved to the 2000 points level already, but just hadn't really announced it to one and all. I like the points level as it gives armies room to bring some of the more fun units contained within their codex.

2500 is great for Ard Boyz prep, but I wouldn't want to see it become the standard. Lists start to get a little unwieldy a that size, and with the casual way most games are played at The Barn, a 2500 point game can easily take 3-3.5 hours. That keeps a table occupied for a long period of time which I'm not a huge fan of. We're getting to the size level where we need more tables, and a game taking up a table for more than half the evening may lead to problems in the future.

But enough of that. Yes, I approve the standardization of points for all 40k games to be 2000pts. Bring that size list and everyone else will have something to match it.

Cool! I have mostly been writing/bringing 2000pt lists since the end of escalation, but wasn't sure if I was the only one or not.

If there is a "barn standard" then it should be between 1500 and 2000 points.

I just keep several lists around. They only problem with that is that I end up with lots of old lists where I can't remember how they are supposed to work!

Lol.

But seriously, I dont think youd have the points for the librarian upgrade. But everything else looks good.

No way. The librarian upgrade is like JELL-O. There's always room for it.

I'm with everyone on the idea of 2,000pts as a standard... it means that people could field a Lord "if" they wanted to, but still small enough where most people could play and really get a great game in.

The 2000 point standard being discussed here applies to 40k and not Fantasy. For those planning on starting Fantasy (or currently play) it might be a good idea to discuss if a different level would work better.

I know you were, but I was just saying it works as a good choice for fantasy too... Now when it comes to 40k, I would have to say that 12 points sounds AWESOME... rofl 1,000,000 plague zombies.... mwuhahahahahahahaha

I am currently working on putting together standard squads and companies. That way I know "Alpha Squad" is a standard AoBR tactical squad (1sgt, 7 bolters, 1 flamer, 1 missile launcher)=170 points. I am working on putting these together on 3x5 cards, so I simply grab the cards and throw together any size army quite quickly. This gives me my own person, paper version of Army builder.

I like running some smaller amounts, too--like combat patrols. These are quick, fun filler games.
