Unless you've gone deaf the past month, you've probably noticed a lot of talk at The Barn about different game systems that people are considering playing. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that I myself am growing tired of 40k, and Games Workshop in general. I'm looking to try other games, and see what else is out there. I got burned out on 40k these last few months, and I need a breather with something new and different to keep myself in the gaming hobby.

With that said, I've devoted myself almost fully into Warmachine by Privateer Press. Myself and Jeremy as well, have begun collecting decent sized forces and plan on playing this quite regularly at The Barn. Less models in the games means less to buy, less to paint, and usually quicker games. Only needing a 4x4' table also means it's easier to find room when the other larger tables may be full.

With our foray into this, it got me thinking about game systems in our club. Obviously, 40k is King, Emperor, and all around head of the class. Do people want to try new game systems though? And if so, who will actually get into them? I know I'd love to see more people playing Warmachine. With Jeremy and myself gaining our new models, we are always glad to do a demo game for anyone interested. The quick start rules are really quite simple to play, and do a good job of showing people the basic mechanics of the game without getting into much of the special abilities and such.

I think this is the strategy to take with any new system. Someone needs to step up to get the ball running. Sure everyone says they'd like to try it, but no one wants to be the first to buy the rules/models. Jeremy and I are starting up Warmachine. Maybe somebody else wants to start up LOTR. Or possibly Battlefleet Gothic. What ever the game system, I feel it's important that the person pushing it on others needs to have the models and rules available to run demos and drive interest. Sure it sucks to be the guy in the front, taking the lead on things, but I think it's the only way that other game systems will truly be introduced and gain participation.

Just some random thoughts and musings from me.

I probably won't start any new system besides BFG or Aeronautica Imperialis. Warmachine's fluff doesn't suit me enough to warrant buying new models. And the two systems I mentioned are not worth getting into right now because I've spent enough on 40k as it is and intend to stick with what I have for the moment.

Almost any game would involve less models compared to an Ork army in 40K. ;)

I myself am getting pretty geeked about getting back into Warmachine. I had loved the gameplay and fluff, but had a bad experience with their customer support, which kind of turned me off to the game for a while. However time heals all wounds, I've had some better experiences with their customer support and after talking with some of the press gangers at Adepticon, seeing and remembering how much I really liked the sculpts, I got drawn back into it. After all I got into this hobby because of the painting/modeling aspect, and being able to actually play games with the models that I worked so hard to make look good was just a nice side effect.

So, as Brian has stated we've collected a decent amount of stuff over the past couple of weeks thanks to Bartertown and other trading sites. I'll now have enough models to field a decent starter army for a number of the different factions so people are welcome to try the game out and see if they like the way it plays.

I have online returned to wargaming last July after 20 years of being out. I have invested a lot of time and money (everyone who plays knows those are a given) into Warhammer 40K. Personally, I have played less than a dozen battles with my son playing about the same. My army is still in disarray--most base coated, but not fully painted. I still have not come up with good tactics and strategies for my army and I am still learning some of the rules (thank for everyone's help and patience on the forum for that).

That being said, I have not played long enough, no have I "gotten enough out of" my 40K army for me to be ready to abandon it or shelve it. My brother (Todda) has been trying for months to get me into Fantasy and I have turned him down for the same reasons. I do not have the time or money, nor have I played long enough, to focus on anything else. I understand I am one of the least experienced players at the barn, so I can understand why others would be burned out and I wish you the best with that.

JohnRCS...In case you missed it...no one is taking about quitting 40k...there are just some people who wish to start playing other games as well. I assume you already knew this...but just wanted to clarify just in case.

I play Heroscape, It's ALOT simpler than 40k and stuff. If you all were around gaming in early 90's, there was a fantasy game called HEROQUEST. Heroscape was designed by same creater. I have all units and a TON of units, enough for 4 players easily. You build armies and fight, the board is completely customizable and takes longer to set up than a game to play sometimes. Only prob, I work Friday nights so I'd only be able to demo and play on a free Saturday. If your looking for a "simpler" system, me and my friends have a blast playing this.
