@ Todda: Why dont you come out to play 40k?
It is about an hour drive, I have 3 kids at home ages 8, 10, and 12, and you guys play way too late for me... especially with the drive. Saturday or Sunday is much better and afternoon is even better. I live on the North end of Grand Haven. We have a group in Coopersville and there is a new store up in Muskegon called Grandiosity that just started running a Fantasy campaign. We merged our groups basically as we had 10 Fantasy Players and they had about 6 from their 40k guys that played Fantasy, plus about 4-6 new players from the area joined in. They only play every other Sunday though and the campaign rules are pretty sketchy at best. It is fun though. They have a mix of experienced and new players and levels in between. I made a VERY aggressive Skaven Clan Pestilens army and it is kicking pretty much everybody around. My last battle against an experience Empire player was the closest at 1300 to 400. There is one player with Lizardmen doing about the same that I will likely be playing against soon. If I walk all over him I will tone down my army a bit and make a mixed clan army just for fun and drop control of the cities I took. I told the guy to NOT play me against beginners right now and what I was planning and he thought both ideas were good.
I have been playing Skaven for 17+ years, but pretty much dropped out of the scene for almost 10 years do to my Ex and kids. I'm back now, just in time for the new Skaven army book and the latest rule book and beefed up my army with some of the new models. They did a pretty good job on it and the new models are great. They are missing a lot of new models though, so I have been making a bunch of custom models to fill out the rest of my army. I can pretty much field a legal 10,000 point army. I have a lot to paint and keep making or buying more, so...
I did get into 40k a bit back in the day, but I did not care for it much. When I came back though the group in Coopersville played only 40k, so I dusted off my Eldar and got kicked around. I traded models from AoBR with John, so I got into Orks. These were much better. I learned the army and the rules much better in just a few months. John always wants to learn more, but I asked if he wanted to play against Orks or Eldar. He picked Eldar and I have been ripping him apart with those too. I just did not understand the rules or the Eldar very well. Now I do. I still do not have enough experience to take on the really good players, but I consider myself strong mid-level player in 40k. I have Fantasy on my brain right now though.
