Jeremy and I got a game in last night, were I used a technique I'd read about called his 'Gatecrasher Charge'. Basically, I placed one of my own models right about 10" directly away from Caine in a straight line towards the enemy warcaster/warlock. I would then charge my own model with Cain (who has a charge range of SPD 7 + 3" = 10"). According to the rulebook, because I end my charge in melee range of the charge target, I have thus made a
successful charge and would then normally use my combat action to make an attack against him.
To get around killing my own guy, before that combat action is made, Caine would use his spell 'Gatecrasher' which basically allows him to teleport 8". As long as the teleport ends with him in melee range of a target, he can then continue his activation and make attacks. The question that arose between me and Jeremy was really quite simple. 'Must Caine make his charge attack against the model he charged?' I said he didn't, Jeremy said he did, and I just killed my guy and continued on with Caine's activation.
Having done a bit more reading and research, it looks like the technique does work as I originally had read. I found an Infernal post on the PP forums stating that after a successful charge has been made, a spell can be cast between the charge ending, and the combat action taking place.

http://www.privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?7220-Attacking-killing-own-model-charging&p=120043#post120043We had thought that the first attack after a charge must be directed at the charging target. After all, it actually says that (pg 47, MKII rulebook, top paragraph). However, after reading more of that page, I found a section that actually talks about this situation.
Quote:
If the charging model cannot make its first melee attack against the charge target, the charging model can make its first melee attack against another eligible target, but this is not a charge attack. It does not lose its first attack.
So to me, this looks like a valid tactic. Admittedly, it's brutal and crazy, but I guess this is the reason why eCaine is thought as one of the games best assassination warcasters.
