So, I'm going to grand rapids with mom this week since I need to drive. I convinced her to take me to Riders. . Anyways.. Whats a good base paint for Midnight blue?

I'm very much a noob that doesn't know how to paint!

I've seen so many people do black for the chaos so I want to go on a different path! XD

(Yes I know the discontinued midnight blue but no one said I couldn't mix some paint up to get the color I want/need! XD )

I'm assuming this is over a black primer?

Try picking up the Necron Abyss Foundation paint. It's a very deep blue/purple that might be a good base if you plan on painting a model with dark blues.

Well here's a real simple rundown of my painting process.

1. Get new models, cut them off sprue, clean off flash and mold lines, assemble, glue to base.
2. Prime models with a black primer. I use Dupli-color Automotive sandable primer. It's cheap and gives a good coverage.
3. With primer, less is more. Don't go crazy on it. A few light coats is WAY better than 1 heavy coat. You don't want to obscure detail.
4. Let dry, and then apply your basecoat. I'm assuming at this point, colors are already picked out so you'll know what to start with. Usually, darker colors first, then move on to lighter ones.
5. After basecoat, highlight/drybrush to bring out edges/detail
6. Maybe pick out details like eyes, guns, chapter symbols, etc...
7. You're probably done.

You could probably find some how to's on youtube. MY advice is, dont count on being the next DeVinci right away. Count on it sucking pretty bad, and don't get discouraged. Build up your skill over time. Learn how to strip paint off models, so as your skill grows, you can strip your poorly painted minis and repaint them to look better. Learn how to dry brush. That and washes are easy and quick ways to add highlights, and darken recessed areas. Like I said, the thing to remember is that painting skills take time to develop.
