We've got a little money saved up, and most of the current Barn improvements are paid for until next year. What are people's thoughts about getting a computer out in the Barn with Army Builder and a printer set up? I know I've seen times when people forget a list or want to make changes to something but are unable too. This would allow you to quickly make lists on the fly and print them right there at the Barn.

Luckily, I just happen to have my old desktop available that the Barn could purchase to use. The only thing that would needed is possibly someone who has an old monitor/printer laying around that they could donate. Otherwise I'm sure a cheap one could be found on Craigslist someplace.

Just looking to get opinions from people on what they think of the idea, and if they'd like having a computer in the barn for this type of use.

That's a solid idea. I may have an old printer laying around somewhere that The Barn could purchase.

I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm just pointing out something that upset me a bit. Why must we donate a printer/monitor to the barn, and you sell your desktop? I don't think that's right. That's starting to sound like a double standard. I have a monitor that the barn may PURCHASE as well. And before anyone gets all up in arms about it, its not about the money. Its about having the same standard across the board. If you are willing to make the decision on behalf of the barn to purchase your computer for the barn, then you should be willing to purchase the other needed equipment from other people, instead of expecting them to donate it. I just assume save the money for other things and see if we cant get a free computer, printer, and monitor. Have it all donated.

I'd be willing to purchase a monitor and printer if someone had those laying around as well. You make a valid point about the double standard.

I have an old Dell in my garage I'm about to take to the dump. It has/had Windows XP pro loaded on it. I told a customer of mine I'd dispose of it for him and never got around to it. It's pretty much junk, but if you're interested I can put a clean install of Windows XP on it and try to clean it up a bit. Hopefully it still runs. If you're interested we could work out the details.

I like the idea if the machine is modern enough to bother. I would also like to see it provide Internet access as I keep my army lists in Google Docs.

Admittedly, a better solution to the Internet problem is for the House Router to have a guest access option. I don't know if it does, and I have no way of checking.
