"A single Hive Tyrant (including the Swarmlord) may join may join a unit of Tyrant Guard exactly as if it were an independent character."

So I take this to mean they could split off as an Independent character as normal as well. For the purposes of Independent character status...it is only an independent character to the Tyrant Guard?

I am just pondering moving two CC oriented Tyrants Forward with full Lash Guards and then flying the Tyrants forward into the assault a turn earlier than otherwise possible...then Lash Guard catch up or go after something that will go after the Tyrants.

Just seeing more strategy than first thought with this unit.

People think my logic is sound?...wanted to check before I try it.

Does it say that the tyrant and guards function as a retinue at all? What do the various INAT and FAQ's say on the issue?

It does not say that they count as a retinue...my INAT and FaQ are not at hand.

Tyrant Guard are purchased in their own Force Org slot, right? Sounds to me like a Hive Tyrant can join and detach from them like an IC, but it can't attach to anything else. Killpoints don't matter since the Tyrant and his Guard are separate killpoints in the first place.

I agree that they count as an IC for the purposes of joining/leaving a squad ot tyrant guard, but with the way it says 'a single hive tyrant...' leads me to believe that you may need a seperate squad of guard for each hive tyrant.

As far as your example tactic is concerned I see no reason you couldn't do that.
