do henchmen take up a slot if they are taken as troops because of coteaz?
wondering, because as written "This unit does not take up a force org slot."
Henchmen start as elite and do not take up slots.
coteaz makes them troops but it doesnt say they then take a slot.

confused i am.
I think it was implied they should but who knows with this codex?

He makes them a troops choice...a choice takes up a slot.

People have been trying to debate this but to no avail.

Without Coteaz you can get up to 2 warbands...with him...6.

I do agree with this interpretation, but admit that I think there is a little more gray area as well.

Coteaz makes henchman warbands troops. Thus you can bring 1-6 units of them in your troop slots. I agree 100% on this.

What I wonder though, is when you don't take them, are they elites? They are listed under the elites section of the codex, and the ruling beneath that simply states that taking an Inquisitor lets you take the unit without it taking up a FOC slot. Are you still able to take them as elites if you don't take an inquisitor? There's enough gray area I feel that an FAQ needs to clear it up.

I also had that question...I see no clear ruling or anything that states you must take an Inquisitor with the exception of Coteaz's personal entry where it states that by taking him the henchmen warbands are not limited by the number of inquisitors in the army.

This is how I reached my assumption of Ward's implication. And unfortunately that's about as clear as it gets...

I agreed with that but, you know.
maybe we should make this thread a barn rules for grey knights because of all of the grey (hehe) area in that codex.

ok, i was chattin with eric after reading a bunch of stuff about henchmen online. we came to somewhat of a conclusion.
nowhere does it say they ever take up a slot, they just become troops (scoring).
so an all henchmen army is illegal. (the way we read it)

so i got interested and called GW. more non-sense. but i feel until something is released that is the most authoritative way of getting an answer.

sure enough, dude said that henchmen do not take a slot.

i said so i take 2 5-man strike squads and 15 3-man henchmen and thats legal? yuppers

i dont know if you guys care but im considering composing, with everyones help of course, a simple list and posting it so that we all have a good idea how GK work.

any sugestions?

I don't know what you mean by suggestions personally? For an army build?

My only issue was that is says are troop choices and not...counts as scoring...just more inconsistencies...
(I just read troops choices as troop slot...too open for interpretation I guess)

At this point i have no beef with it being played either way until the FaQ drops.

I could very much see why it would go either way though. Sucks for the all Inquisition armies some people may have been planning.

First off, I agree with Gojira316, Matt Ward sucks at his job.

[quote="ductvader"]My only issue was that is says are troop choices and not...counts as scoring...just more inconsistencies...

The major problem is that there are other units in the game that are troops choices that do not take up a slot or fulfill the FoC requirements. Lesser Summoned Daemons from the Chaos Marines Dex is the primary example that comes to mind. So without it specifically saying that they will now take up a force org slot then they still wouldn't (RAW as I see it anyhow.) If they don't take up a force org slot how can they fulfill the required slot?

Now personally, I believe that when an official FAQ comes out they will fulfill the required troop slots, but right now the way they are written I don't think that's what it says. Also, for now I will let any Grey Knight players run it however they interpret it in pick-up games. It's only a game after all. In tourney's I would ask the TO ahead of time.
