On July 31st, 2010, The Segmentum Michigandus Gaming Club of Grand Rapids will be hosting it's first ever, open to the public tournament! A big push has been made in the past weeks to get our terrain and boards fully assembled and painted, and so I've decided what better way to show them off than to host a tournament where people can see them up close an personal.

Location Information
Kosciuszko Hall - Sacred Heart Society
935 Park Street NW Grand Rapids, MI

Easily accessible to both I-131 and I-196, I hope this location will serve us well. Putting the address into most any map program should give you adequate directions on how to find the place.

Tournament cost will be $15 per person. This will include lunch(pizza) and a free soda with lunch.

Tournament Times
10:00am - Registration Begins
11:00am - Round 1
1:00pm - Lunch
2:00pm - Round 2
4:30pm - Round 3
6:45pm - Awards

Tournament Information and Rules

- Armies will consist of 2000 points using a standard force organization chart.
- The Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition Rules will be used.
- All 40k armies will use their most current codex (Daemonhunters and Witchhunters players, are able to use either the printed codex, or the PDF from the website, but must abide by the rules contained within. Thus if only using the PDF, no allies are allowed)
- There are no painting requirements for this tournament
- Forge World/Imperial Armor units are not allowed, however players may still use their Forge World models to represent a unit from their codex.
- Individual units that may have multiple rules versions will follow the rules presented in that army's codex. Yes, this means a Black Templar Land Raider will function differently than a standard Space Marine Land Raider. Please take the time to review the relevant GW/INAT FAQ's for clarifications.
- Special/Unique/Named Characters may be fielded, provided their individual rules allow them to be used in armies of 2000 pts or less.
- The 'What You See Is What You Get' (WYSIWYG) rule is in effect. That means all units must be easily identifiable as the particular codex choice they represent and that any and all weapons/options taken for a unit must be clearly represented on the model(s).
- You must provide access to your own rules (which include the actual Codex used for your army), dice, templates, pen/pencil, calculator, or anything else you'll need during the course of regular play. For the purpose of using Inquisitorial Allies in your army, you must also possess the appropriate codex from which you are using allies.
- A separate printed army list is required for the judges and each of your opponents.
- Each round will be 2 hours in length
- In order to keep the tournament running on schedule, when time is called for a round, all player's must drop the dice and stop playing - no exceptions. Because of this, please be aware of the time left in the round and do not start a turn you cannot finish. A hard warning will be issued with 15 minutes remaining in the game. NO Game Turn shall be started after this warning is issued, period.
- If illegal units or rules violations are found in a player's list, at a minimum, the models in violation will be removed from all subsequent play. Tournament points may be deducted and award eligibility may be forfeited.
- Tournament Judges' rulings are final and arguments or poor conduct by players will not be tolerated.
- For rules questions and disputes, the judges ask that you try to resolve the issue quickly with your opponent first. If an agreement can not be made, call a judge to make a decision on the issue. If necessary, the INAT will be utilized to provide a ruling on a disagreement. The most current version will be used, although GW FAQ's will always supersede the INAT rulings.

Prize Support
Best General - $60 The WarStore gift certificate
2nd Place - $30 The WarStore gift certificate
Best Painted - $30 The WarStore gift certificate

Best Painted will be awarded based on player/judge voting. Before and after Round 1, players will leave their armies out to be judged by all participants. Each person will be allowed one vote, and can not vote for their own army. In order to qualifty for the Best Painted award, all models in an army must be fully painted, to a 3 color minimum and based. Any unpainted models will disqualify a person from this award. If no army is able to qualify, then the award will be changed to 3rd place instead, with 2nd place getting $35 and 3rd place getting $25

Registering a Spot
In order to register a spot, please PM with your name. We should have space available for 18 players, and can possibly add more if a demand is there. I will keep a waiting list set up and fill any open spots from that list as they appear.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

So this is looking really good. I was worried last Friday about having to cancel due too lack of participation, but the last 2 days have seen people come out of the woodworks to sign up. Currently at 14 people, and hoping to squeeze out a few more. Looks to be a good time!

I was just joking because he said he was going to play guard last time.

Well the tournament is over, and I hope everyone had a good time. Things got a little stressful when more people than expected showed up, but a quick stop to Lowes to cut a few boards gave us the extra tables that we needed. Overall, we had 16 players show up. Some interesting missions and a great group of players made the event a win I think. I hope everyone had a good time, and I look forward to seeing more people the next time we run an event! Here are the results and some pictures I took throughout the day!

Austin's right, my Space Wolves look sick on that ice board.

I had a phenomenal time at the tournament and am looking forward to the next one. Hopefully it'll be a doubles tournament. Just to mix things up a bit.

Hopefully next time people will have their own models, and I wont have to lend any out! :P I did have fun seeing some Guard using some rebel chimeras and Blood Angels that stole some Baals from the Angry Marines. Oh man those BA's are F'd when the Angry Marines find out, haha!!

Yeah too bad I can't buy those chimeras from you. No matter. Just need to save and buy more...when everything else is done first.

"Thanks for the pictures", says the guy who wasn't able to attend! A full 16 is quite a showing, so congrats all around. I was glad to see the Tau decently well represented in my absence, and somebody even brought a skyray. Does that mean somebody's actually been listening when I sing the praises of the skyray?
