With this year running down, and with the leadup to Adepticon, I think we should do something in the intervening months. So let's start up another winter League. Here's the idea that a few of us threw together over the past week.
It will be similar to the old GW 'Eye of Terror' campaign that they did a few years back. All the participants will be split into teams, and as they fight battles, they win control points for certain planetary systems. Members of a team are allowed to challenge other team members to pick the placement of the battle. Challenges will be allocated a specific amount per team, that will renew each phase (i think a phase would last 1 month). Other interesting cards that the teams would have, would be a counter-attack charge, where after a challenge has been issued, they can play this card to instead attack first on the battlefield of their choosing.
Certain planetary systems would always use specific terrain types, such as a hive world with all buildings and ruins, or an agri-world which would be all hills and trees.
Special characters would be allowed, possibly limted to 1 specific character per team (open to discussions on this) but would be limited in that they could die and be gone from good. I'm thinking each special/unique character is allowed 1 ressurection. Basically it can die once and be ok. But if it dies twice, then he isn't allowed to be used anymore during the league. Maybe each team will have a single Ressurection card that will allow a special/unique character 1 more chance on the battlefield. (again open for discussion)
This will also be a painting league, similar to the escalation league we did last year. I'm thinking something similar. The first phase is 1000 points and requires fully painted models (basing is optional). The second phase would be 1500 points, and the third phase 1850. This leads right up to Adepticon and the Championships where you will need a 1850 army painted anyways.
You would be allowed to use any codex and models. Each game you could use something different if you'd like. You are only limited by the models that you have painted.
At the end of the league, the winning team will win something. (perhaps a pizza party or some other type of group prize that all members can share. again open to discussion)
Let me know your thoughts and interest level. I'd love to have 3-5 teams, but that would require around 12 people so hard to say if that many will participate. The nice thing is with having 2-3 people on a team, if for some reason you can't make it out one night, your team member can get in a few games to gain some control points on a system.
