Objective: Capture & Control Deployment: Pitched Battle
Dark Eldar win the roll for first turn and elect to go first.
Dark Eldar Deployment: Dark Eldar deploy two 10 man Warrior squads with Dark Lances in cover just left of the center of their deployment zone. On the Warriors left a squad of ten Wyches in a Raider and a squad on six Incubi with Asdrubael Vect in a Raider are deployed. To the Warriors right two more Raiders full of Wyches are deployed. Further to the right a Ravager and two Razorwing Jetfighters are deployed.
Grey Knights Deployment: A 5 man squad of Terminators and a 5 man Purgation squad are deployed on the left in some trees. A 10 man Strike quad is deployed along the left board edge with an Inquisitor. A second Purgation unit is deployed in a crater near the center of the Grey Knights deployment zone. Another 10 man Strike squad is deployed in between the two Purgation squads. Two Venerable Dreadnoughts are deployed, one behind the trees to the left and the other behind a building on the right, across from the Dark Eldar heavy support. Two 10 man Interceptor squads are held in reserve.
Grey Knights fail to Seize the Initiative.
Turn One: Vect's Raider as well as the Wyches to its left slam forward toward the Grey Knight lines and jump down from their vehicles. The remaining two Raiders move flat out towards Vect to reinforce their master in turn two. Both Razorwings position themselves to fire on either the Purgation squad or the Venerable Dreadnought while the Ravager takes aim at the same Dreadnaught.
The Wyches and Vect with his Incubi run towards the Grey Knights in the trees hoping for that first turn assault. Two Raiders and a Warriors squad open fire on the Dreadnought but only manage to stun it. One Razorwing takes out the center Purgation squad while the Ravager and the second Razorwing fire on the Dreadnought but only manage to stun it.
FIRST TURN ASSAULT!!! Wyches throw themselves into the Purgation squad in the trees while Vect and his Incubi elect to charge the Strike Squad on the right. The combat is quick and brutal as the Purgation squad is reduced to one model and the Strike squad is completely annihilated.
Reacting to the unexpected assault of the Dark Eldar the Terminators begin plodding towards Vect and his retinue who consolidated towards the crater formerly occupied by a Purgation squad. Both Dreadnoughts pass their Fortitude check as the remaining Strike squad moves up to help out the lone Grey Knight fighting the Wyches. Terminators open up into the Incubi killing five (I forgot they had Feel No Pain). Vect cares not and passes his Leadership check.
Grey Knights assault into the Wyches and manage to win combat by one but the Wyches hold.
Turn Two: Hungry for pain the Wyches drive up to the Terminators and the Strike squad and disembark. Vect waives his hand and his Raider moves towards him. Satisfied for the moment the Overlord of Commorragh boards his Raider. Soaring overhead the Razorwings reposition themselves to fire at the Dreadnought on the right and are joined by the Ravager. The Raiders take aim at the Dreadnought on the right.
Despite their efforts the heavy support elements of the Dark Eldar only manage to stun the Dreadnought, which it ignores thanks to its Fortitude ability. The Raider and Warriors fair a little better and manage to knock off one Autocannon from the Dreadnought on the right.
Closing in, the Wyches launch an assault into the Terminators and the Strike Squad. Again the Wyches prove to be too fast for the Grey Knights as the Terminators are eliminated and the Strike squad is further reduced in numbers.
Neither squad of Interceptors arrives from reserve.
With little else to do the Venerable Dreadnoughts fire ineffectively at the Dark Eldar vehicles.
The combat between the Grey Knights and the Wyches continues to grind along as the Imperial elite are being beaten down by the speedy Dark Eldar.
Turn Three: Vect points his Raider toward the Dreadnought on the right as the remaining three transports and the Kabalite Warriors continue to address the Dreadnought on the left. The third squad of Wyches fresh off of their victory against the Terminators heads toward the Strike squad.
The combined fire of every vehicle and the two Warrior squads still only manages to stun the Fortitude enhanced Venerable Dreadnoughts.
Yet another squad Wyches piles into the combat with the Strike Squad and reduces the Grey Knights to a few marines and the Inquisitor.
One 10 man Interceptor squad arrives from reserve.
The newly arrived Interceptors Shunt up the field towards one of the Razorwings.
The Dreadnought on the right fires its remaining Autocannon at a Razorwing scoring two penetrating hits. Both are nullified by the Razorwings Flickerfield. The second Razorwing doesn’t fair as well and is blown up by the Strike squad. The Ravager suffers the same fate as the second Dreadnought fires its pair of Autocannons.
The fighting continues on the left as the Wyches win combat yet again. The outcome of this fight is all but decided as there is only one Grey Knight and their Inquisitor left to fight over 20 Wyches.
Turn Four: The remaining Razorwing flies over to address the newly arrived Interceptors and is joined by two Raiders including Vect’s who jumps down. The two remaining Raiders continue to line up shots against the Dreadnought on the left.
The combined fire of two Warrior squads, the Razorwing and a pair of Raiders reduces the Interceptors to three Grey Knights. The remaining Raiders fire on the Dreadnought, again, it does nothing.
Vect assaults the last three Interceptors and kills them before they know what’s happening. Finally, the Wyches have won their combat killing the Inquisitor and the last Grey Knight.
We decide to call the game at this point as the Grey Knights have only one squad on Interceptors in reserve and the two Dreadnoughts left. Most importantly, they have no scoring units remaining.
Dark Eldar win.
